Austria to ban full-face veil in public places

Oh piffle, don't sound so stroppy .. here we go with the usual accusation of calling anyone who has concerns about Islam a bigot.
No one has said ...it is my land ..
I'm saying I was born on this sod of soil and so am accustomed to Western culture, Equality Laws and it's social values I was raised with. I therefore assume anyone who wants to live here would happily adopt them .. and for the same reason I would never go and live in the Middle East.


Multiculturalism hasn't gone well for Britain. 
Perhaps it has for Australia? You could be right. I do remember after you had your own terrorist attack in that café a couple of years back that a great many Aussies started a FB page offering to chaperone frightened Muslims about who were afraid for their safety.
I assume then that more Muslims will prefer to go there then and will be welcomed by Australia. 

It seems a good solution... though whether Trump is still having all those immigrants that Turnbull doesn't want still seems undecided.

It isn't bigoted to want people to be identifiable in public. I am not religious at all, and don't believe in god,but respect anyones right to believe whatever turns them on. I do however firmly believe that when you go to live in another country then you should try and fit in with their way of life,and encourage your children to do so too. 

No one is worse than the Australians when it comes to being bigoted. whitnes their treatment of the native Australians. They have been treated terribly over the years by white Australians.

We are all as entitled to our crazy opinions as others are to theirs.

Be under no illusion - the majority of people in UK voted for Brexit - that means a large number of immigrants who have settled here did so. They are as fed up as us anglo Saxons with what is happening to our society with unbridled immigration and the creep of a type of Islam that goes well beyond what it prescribes in the Koran.

When I come to power, the first thing I will do is ensure that all public signs and official documentation are just in English. This will also be adopted in all schools and Universities where only English will be spoken.

Courts will only be allowed to use English and anyone who requires a translator will have to pay for and provide their own.

It will be the same in doctors surgeries and hospitals - English only. Furthermore, where the rule in a hospital is that only 2 visitors are allowed on the ward - this will be rigorously applied to Asians where the whole family always turn up and cause disruption on the Ward.

We will have identity cards and everyone will have their DNA registered on a National data base. Hospitals will not treat for free those who are not entitled - like these bloody Africans who come here for transplants or to give birth then vanish back home without paying. It is reckoned that such people cost our NHS £2 billion a year

You are lucky to live in a land where immigration has been the norm and has worked. But even you Aussies have drawn a line and deposit boat people on an island to keep them from getting onto your shores and then try and palm some off to the USA. You got Trumped.

I will dismantle the holiday camp environment we call prisons and ensure that order is returned - even if it needs the army to assist. It will give them an ideal opportunity to train for close combat. Oh - and the nonsense where prisoners get released from prison after serving half their sentence will be revoked and replaced by a regime that they serve their full term plus extra time for bad behaviour.

I would cancel the Human Rights Act forthwith and not wait for Brexit to be completed. Also withdraw from the common fisheries policy and the farming subsidies we pay to French farmers for them to waste.

There will be proper punishment for those who drink & drive, drive while drugged to the gills, and those who phone and text whilst driving. Tinted car windscreens and front windows will be banned. Driving without insurance will be subject to compulsory imprisonment of at least 12 months.

All our judiciary will be required to live in a flat on a high density housing estate for at least 3 months every 2 years to get a taste of what it is like to be a normal person and what they have to put up with in a so-called multicultural society.

Britain has changed for ever you can't have it back they way it used to be. I remember the first or perhaps it was the second influx of immigrants, encouraged vigorously by the govt of the day because there was a shortage of British people prepared to do those "menial" tasks such as street cleaning, bus driving, council workers, road diggers etc - I think the term "laziness of the British worker" was born.

And what did the great British Empire run by a mad Queen Victoria do for Britain? raped the rest of the world, supported a slave trade, stolen the goods and land from other continents and now the 'worm' has turned. Those that were usurped have come to usurp too by stealth. Britain wanted to get filthy rich from other nations now you have to pay the price in a freer world. Wherever Britain went with its armies it changed the cultures [or attempted to ] down the barrel of a gun, be British or perish - things have just been reversed that's all. You can't save your cake and eat it at the same time, now it's curry time!!

How come this thread has turned into Brits pointing out, quite reasonably, how they'd like the country they live in to remain essentially British ...
Whilst an Aussie's posts are focused on just running us down ....  and like an amnesiac skirts around explaining how his indigenous aborigines are getting on these days?

This thread is going nowhere - and I don't think we are being fair by ganging up on davo. It is unreasonable to expect him to have the first notion of what living in the UK is like today - and what awaits us tomorrow if we let things slide. Similarly - we cannot really understand what life is really like in Australia. The media is a poor representation of the truth.

It would be best if we retired into our respective corners and let the guy go back to enjoying his quiet and stress free rural life where rabbits and boat people are banned.

We have only banned the boats because they are leeky and unsafe air loads of people are encouraged [well in limited numbers] - rabbits can still be found in most supermarkets dressed for the dinner table - I don't know where they are getting them from but they are still getting in - they term " they breed like rabbits" is not acceptable term over here  - people don't breed over here they procreate or better still make love not war!

Don't lecture us in the UK because we want everyone who lives here to be fully visible and identifiable in public places. Immigrants or UK citizens it does not matter which, everyone should be able to be recognisable if they commit a crime.  Put your own house in order before you lecture us, we just want to feel safe on our streets.  No one is bothered one jot if these women want to walk around looking like dustbin bags, it is the FACE MASKS we object to.  Can't you see that?

I thought the whole point of any criminal whether a recent immigrant or long standing UK citizen was to remain unidentifiable in public places.


I also thought that immigrants do become UK citizens so why distinguish them apart.


may I suggest that your avatar may benefit from a face mask - by the bye I am a fully paid up UK citizen born and breed and living abroad and reserve the right of course to comment on the activities of my country of birth - I have no problem on you continuing to comment on Australia.

andsome - with respect there is nothing to be gained in posting propaganda published by people with an agenda because it is always selective and never paints the full picture. Our knowledge of Australia is second hand, we don't live there and thus obtain our views from the media and the sort of stuff you have posted. Similarly, davo gets his knowledge of the UK from his short experience of living here followed by reading the same kind of stuff tilted in the opposite direction. 
To accuse us of raping and pillaging over the centuries to make England rich has a smidgen of truth. But it fails to state that we brought wealth and order to those countries too - who massively benefited from our presence.


It may well be the same in Australia where immigrants brought their knowledge which has actually benefited the native Australians, a minority of which have chosen not to benefit out of there own ideology.


Similarly the Indian tribes in America now enjoy a standard of living that would not have existed if it were not for the settlers.


I find these pissing contests between people rather pointless - it is not going to change anything and we would be better to spend our energies on our own problems and let others get on with theirs.

I don't understand where you are getting you ideas from. Of course potential criminals want to remain unidentifiable, this is what we object to. Face masks in public should be banned. It is nothing to do with racial or religious discrimination, it is to do with security

with all due double respect alan I spent the first half of my life in UK and now the second half in OZ so it is 50/50 NOT a short period as you state. I have made several visits  to UK in the remaining half of my life. I have friends and relatives ranging from London to the North and talk to them regularly. the keep my up to date on current social conditions in UK. My friends were initially immigrants to UK and range from Middle East ; Far East and Central Europe.

If you wish to keep this website totally British only just say the word and I will push off. But first give me your definition of a British person including skin tones!

I would imagine that the dear ladies with the face masks feel very secure with their face masks and would indeed feel violated and very insecure without them. would you insist for example that all females in UK should not wear head scarves or heavy make up in public. Is this in fact a domination thing between men and women as usual?

It's an empty argument guys - we are exaggerating the security aspect as a veneer over our old fashioned prejudice. Proper criminals wear balaclavas or motor bike helmets.

The young people don't give a damn about the bin bags and face covering - it's us oldies resisting change. I hate the bloody veils too by the way and feel fully entitled to my prejudice. I've honed it to perfection.

In my case I rarely have a pop at another nation other than in jest - you won't find me slagging off Aussies for the way they treat the indigenous people. It's none of my business.

An extension of this is that I fundamentally disagree with us intervening in the affairs of other nations unless they are a definite threat to our own. Our pumped up politicians never seem to learn the lessons from history and drag us into wars we can never win. Hence the appalling mess in the Middle East today.
