| been so busy doin nuthin nearly forgot uz all! - WHEN are you gonna sort that bloody brexit thing out? I must admit it's givin the rest of the world a good laugh!! well we still watching clouds here at 37C tomorrow whilst our capital city down souff will be 25C wot a difference. but there I was out watering the smallish garden probably quarter acre in all with the hand hose after feeding the dogs [3] and cat [1] - at 6ish this morn - too hot at sun up and was thinkin about allotments - there's a lady down the road does all this 'funny' gardenin - she builds up mounds and inserts natural fertilizers etc - covers them with 12 ft closhers to keep off pests and produces some great stuff. so it can be done! looks like a zoo when ya first see it! we are also enjoying the great continuing dispute in spain with the catalans or whatever you call them - everyone wants independence these days - remember the war of the roses?? tell us more about the allotments mart - they seem to be quintessential british - do they have them in mainland europe too? - they never seem to have caught out over here - must do some research later they may have them in the eastern states - wez a big place here!! yes the englishman/woman at their allotment - quintessential! see yaz all givin harry and meghan a hard time heh - commoners with royals never worked out well!! just had another thought!! wot with gardenin and brexit and royals we could get a few new threads goin around here and kickstart things again - anyone game?? |

| Good morning - It's looking grey outside but I still intend to go on a 5 mile (approx) U3A walk this morning.
A cycle ride (e-bike) to get to my friends house and then get driven to walk's starting point. A bike ride home again when the walk is done. I hope the weather stays dry for it all.
Have a good day. |

| storm clouds building today and may break in the night! - we are getting excited now as there is still too much heat in OZ overall!
watching a lot of Indian romance films on one of our special channels - very captivating in all ways from beauty to music to dramas! I do like their culture! watched another film on the withdrawal of the brits from India - god that was an absolute debacle by the british? |

| It's dry here and I should go and do my stint on the allotment ..but well, it's not compulsory and I just don't feel like it today. I didn't sleep all that well last night with family matters turning over in the mind all the time.
I'll probably ride over to see my brother this afternoon.
I'm feeling pretty much OK thanks Malcolm. Just when I think I'm over the cold, along comes another sneeze or two but that's about all. :)
About allotments Davo - I think that living on an, often besieged, island has made the Brits get into growing produce on allotments. It was maybe a matter of necessity at times but has now something that is an enjoyable pastime as well. With import difficulties possibly coming up again due to Brexit, it might be beneficial for us to grow our own stuff once again and not rely on the shops. :)
When it comes to Brexit, we take an interest and talk a lot about it but basically, the Sun still rises and sets and we all just get on with our daily life regardless. |

| well did a quite bit of foresting about allotments - originally the term in OZ was used to describe a piece of land often given to people who were prepared to live in the wilds and fight the natives! - the more modern term now is 'community gardens' were in fact you can have your little patch but the group often work together and share produce. in the inner cities were land is sparse people have taken over the council verges and started growing! and the councils usually turn a blind eye. so the original allotment system UK still has a long history of course 1700's I believe and is quite unique although there are other examples all over europe of allotments variations. originally in oz of course it was considered that there was so much land who needed an allotment? quarter acre blocks were often the norm with plenty of garden space provided. However I do recall when moving to cheshire in my teens that there was 'bags' of garden space both front and back to our smallish council house! allotments 1allotments 2 I did like that pic and description of the allotment on the river banks at Osney Oxford - sounds like a dream - gardening and crayfishing too!

| Good morning - It was windy enough overnight to cause some plastic cladding to blow off the front of the house and get deposited on the garden. An emergency repair done early this morning, enough to stop any more leaving its proper place. The cladding remained unbroken and I'll have to make a proper job of fixing it all back when the wind dies down.
We have farmer's markets too Davo. Some locally made foods can be bought that we don't always see in the shops. They are always worth a visit.
Have a good day. |
