I find that tomatoes are horrible from Spain, Morocco and the Canaries so I rarely eat 'em during the winter months unless I can find some from Holland, which are just OK. I look forward to late spring, early summer when the greenhouse grown ones come available from Yorks, Lancs and Kent.

Ours today are hothouse grown in Holland. For our weekend salads I have bought vine ripened toms. I have lost four pounds the last few days on salads. Small plum tomatoes from Italy are also delicious.

I am slow cooking a ham hock, and also roasting a chicken. I will be making a ham and chicken terrine tomorrow...but today's meal is as yet a mystery, I may make a meat and potato plate pie !
