Good Morning everyone
Largely fine and dry this morning, with some patchy cloud but plenty of warm sunshine. Through the afternoon scattered showers will develop, becoming more widespread and frequent for a time with the risk of thunder, before easing again this evening.....or at least that's what they say !


So how do you get the rainwater out of the butts and on to the garden ?

I'm sure I have already answered this.  I have also noticed that the last or sometimes the last two posts on a page are repeated on the next page.

We use a watering can with water  from the butts.  We only water plants that need it at that time.  We see little sense in soaking the whole of a border and wasting tap water, besides which rain water is better for the plants than tap water, which is full of chemicals.  It only takes about fifteen minutes or so.

Seems a bit labour intensive for me andsome, I am lazy and take the easy way out.
Just back in from watering the back garden tubs and troughs [with a hosepipe]and the conservatory plants and also the houseplants and plants in the porch.....I am exhausted.

The first gained pound came off almost immediately, but I am stuck now for a while at two pounds over my weight when I went away.

We use water from the butts on the house plants too.  We never ever water the grass.  I seeded it down in 1966, and watered it regularly for the first two years, but NEVER since.  It gets scorched to a biscuit colour some summers, but never ever fails to recover fully to a lovely green a couple of weeks after a good rainfall.  We have a passing chance of isolated showers later on, and it is sorely needed.

I only have a very small  bit of grass at the front of my house and I put weed-killer/fertiliser on it twice a year and always water it with the hose-pipe when it's very dry. It is always nice and green and weed-free and well-trimmed. I got rid of my small garden lawns years ago.....the best thing I ever did !

My lawn was ruined 5 years ago by a well known nationwide lawn company who treated it 3 times a year all was well for the first four years then a chap came and treated it on a very hot day --result  scorched and all turned black never to recover we are still replacing turf even after 4 years -we were promised some free treatment but alas never been near,the lawn is 85ft by  85ft and it looks awful.

You can't beat a nice svelte green lawn ...
Mine is naff and full of moss and struggles on heavy clay soil. I gave up trying to get a nice lawn years ago.

Not been on for a few days, daughter and two grandsons have moved in.
My daughter has split up with her partner , also she has two dogs so now there are four  dogs in the house. It's very hectic.

Fourteen degrees and sunny this morning in Burntwood.  Some rain expected later.
