| The problem with a Republic is self evident.
Look around the World where Republics exist and you will find that they are headed by either despots, criminals, left wing activists or nut cases. ----------------------------------------- This post may contain controversial personal opinion, humour, ironic comment or sarcasm. You are talking about dictatorships, and I don't see any of those in Europe, France,Germany,Austria,Sweden,Norway etc. Also in a good many other parts of the world there are many democracies that are not dictatorships run by despots. Roll on the republic of Great Britain. ----------------------------------------- Gustav Mahler is the finest composer who ever lived. |

| A president would need to be elected, I doubt that that leftie idiot would be elected. In the unlikely event that he was, this would still not be a dictatorship as long as we have an elected parliament. ----------------------------------------- Gustav Mahler is the finest composer who ever lived. |

| well kings and queens have their auras and they do pull in the dollars and perhaps we do like a big of pomp and ceremony at times and they do seem to be a jolly nice lot at the moment and surely they are now self funding??
the question is do they make a positive or negative contribution to the rest of the planet??
republics seem so mundane and boring!! |

| We know all about that poor country, but that doesn't alter the fact that a republic here would be framed in such a way to prevent one person dominating all decisions. This does not happen in any European democracy that I can think of, and the people here would not allow it. ----------------------------------------- Gustav Mahler is the finest composer who ever lived. |

| You have more faith in our political system than I have.
There is an even chance Corbyn will rule and then start to purge the labour party of all MP's with an independent mind. Just look at what has happened to the latest one who pointed out the cultural problem of some British Pakistanis grooming, pimping and raping young white girls. She has paid the price and been kicked from the shadow cabinet.
That's how a dictatorship starts out.
We have enough immigrants, left wing judiciary and looney left young in our midst to allow it to happen. ----------------------------------------- This post may contain controversial personal opinion, humour, ironic comment or sarcasm. | I must admit there is a sort of safety feeling with the Queen 'running' the country she seems to fair and regal and "I don't stand no nonsense"" gal! |

The queen runs absolutely NOTHING, she is a figure head who has to sign whatever is put in front of her by the government of the day. ----------------------------------------- Gustav Mahler is the finest composer who ever lived. |
