| The next major update of Windows 10 is expected in the Autumn of this year. It will include a couple of additional security measures. One is called 'controlled folder access'. This should make it more difficult for ransomware to find its way into folders and encrypt them. The other feature will build 'exploit protection' into Windows Defender. Exploit protection can only be implemented at present by using 3rd party programs such as the Pro version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and HitmanPro.Alert. Also, Microsoft has long offered its own similar technology called 'EMET'. Building an improved version of this into Windows Defender is something new that will give further protection by default. | Can't come soon enough. I can then cancel my Malwarebytes Premium subscription which was renewed last week. ----------------------------------------- This post may contain controversial personal opinion, humour, ironic comment or sarcasm. | I bought a couple of lifetime licences years ago for the Premium version of Malwarebytes (or 'Pro' as it was called back then). To the company's credit, the licence has been honoured from version to version since I bought it. Now on version 3.1.2.
Just have to wait and see what the general opinions are of Microsoft's own protections when they come about in the Autumn release. |
