I used to hate country music but have changed as I age. I still hate a lot of the more synthetic, stereotypical stuff but there are a lot of great performers and songwriters that would come under the country umbrella. A few favourites...
And, because no one else has mentioned it...

All very good songs in their way, but none of which I would consider to be 'Country' music apart from the delightful Dolly Parton

In what way are they not country music? No ye-ha's and thigh slapping with a ridiculous stetson, but surely, they are still country?
