PostSubject: Call the Midwife   Call the Midwife EmptyWed Feb 01, 2017 3:45 am

I used to turn a blind eye to this show - thought it was a bit trite - but have come to love it and we have a new series of it starting next sat. I have come to like it for it's honesty and sincerity - I love the juxtapositions of the nuns and the midwives. There is very little or no violence and a lot of loving and caring and it reminds me of a bygone age of English history - God I'm nearly weeping now!! 👏

I like it too! I'm always amazed to think that was when I was about 10 years old! Not a hundred years ago!

We watch it. There's always a story-line that brings a lump in the throat.

When I was 9 years old, I went to a boarding school for a year that was run by Nuns. I have to say they weren't quite as nice and benevolent as the ones in Call the Midwife though.

That was very young Malcolm. Why did that happen?

My stay was because the school was high altitude and out in the country. They thought the air would be good for my asthma. All I was ever taught there was religion and the Catechism.

My mother was hospitalised and dad needed to work to pay the rent etc.
My sister aged ten and me aged five had to go the Catholic home run by nuns to be looked after for a few months....a nightmare !

Tough times for your family. You are right about the scars too. The year I had was not a good one and is never forgotten.

A long time ago Mart.
A lot of people have suffered much more than I did.
Some are still suffering, and I know you and your good lady have your fair share of health problems.

So much for religious teaching, there ars so many stories about cruel nuns, What the hell is the matter with them?  I well remember a TV programme about nuns in a catholic laundry in Ireland, and their abominable treatment of the young women in there, a TRUE story.
