Anyone else like Cod Roe?

It has recently come into season!  Hard Cod Roe.  Great for a change whilst it lasts.  

We bought some on Friday last week.  I usually boil them all on the day of purchase, then freeze them in convenient portions for future use.

Anyone else use them?

We both love fish and eat a lot of it, but we are not keen on roe.

I'm very partial to cod roe boiled then sliced and fried.

I also like smoked cod roe. I've mentioned there is a smokery near here. They do it. They also do a really heavy smoked version which keeps without refrigeration for ages. You just slice very thinly, sprinkle with lemon juice & pepper and enjoy.

I can eat the hard roe when fried - but I don't really enjoy it. There is no way I could eat soft roe

   Some men are so fussy.   

I'm not too keen on soft cod roe - there is always a tough string in it but soft herring roe fried in butter and served on toast with lemon and paprika is one of my favourite dishes.

My father liked herring roe - until he found out what it was.

My wife calls me picky - along with some other compliments like fine mouthed, fussy, discriminating, gourmand etc.  But it all bounces off my hide - I have been insulted by experts

back in me old Liverpool days I was brought up on animal intestines etc - you could say by the time I married I'd had a gut full>

I am the ultimate 'hunter/gatherer' ! I'll eat anything! I'd eat people as long as they were humanely slaughtered. :;smile:

Soft roe is from MALE fish.

Yes but I wouldn't eat sperm either.....no matter where it's from

  I must admit that when I first had soft roe, decades ago, if I had been aware of what they were I would not have eaten them. 

well sqeamish it seems has become a new password around here!

I can eat any offal from an animal, liver and kidney etc.
But I'm not all that keen on fish....I heave at the smell
