Penelope Keith - Britians Hidden Villages

As a former resident of the Isle I am rather taken with this series. I hadn't realized there were still so many functioning villages around the Isle. Tempting to come back and sample one with own empty church? one village shop ? lucky to get a pub thrown in and no GP? and no bus service? so I imagine a personal car would be obligatory?

Plenty of villages fit those criteria around here, although pubs are fast disappearing.

fascinating - the churches in particular. They stand as citadels of a bygone age that historic tv series can be written about. I note in other villages the graveyards are being sadly neglected with overgrown grasses covering many graves - sometimes the responsiblility of the church but often the local council?
