Good Morning + what are you up to today and how is your weather

Good morning - right now it's a cloudy and wet but improving as the day wears on with perhaps some sunshine later.

Good morning - Cloudy but dry at the moment. I hope to get to the allotment today.

They can get a bit depressing after a week or two of this kind of weather. Not so bothered about the lack of sunshine (although a bit of that would be good) but the day being dry is kind of a requirement for bike-riding to the allotment or going out for a walk.

It might affect my mood if poor weather spoils a special day. Otherwise I shrug and accept it's just mother nature.

After 76 years I've come to accept our weather for what it is, temperate.
No real extremes, rarely too hot, rarely too dry and rarely too wet...no hurricanes, no tornadoes, no weather disasters....we just get weather that changes on a daily (or hourly) basis.

well that's not exactly true I've seen tremendous flooding in uk with villages wiped out etc etc - don't you recall and tremendous snow falls in Scotland [ofcourse that's not England heh]

Good evening - The day has been quite warm. It has stayed dry apart from a short burst of light rain around midday. I thought I'd write at this end of the day so I could say what the weather had done, rather than write in the morning and say what it was expected to do. Adds a degree of certainty.  

We went to a car boot sale this morning where I bought a lawn rake and some potted flowers. Planted the flowers in a flower trough this afternoon and then rode to the pharmacy to pick up my 'essential to life' stuff. I live comfortably for another few weeks.

You have been more than fortunate - so have we - in that we have never experienced a flood or tornado. 

However :-

Some of our friends in Somerset got caught in what the media called biblical floods a few years ago and lost their farmhouse and most livestock. Fortunately they were insured but were subsequently not able to get property insurance so sold the land and moved to Bristol.

The river Seven has a habit of causing serious floods downstream from Shrewsbury onwards  despite numerous millions spent on flood defences over the past few years

In 2005 a tornado a ripped through a run down Asian Birmingham suburb causing many millions of pounds worth of improvements. 

What about the Aberfan coal tip landslide which engulfed a school killing about 140 people including about 120 children caused by a long period of heavy rain.

Google lists numerous UK weather disasters during my lifetime

and the winter of '63 was it I recall? - all my west indian mates their skins were turning blue in the cold - they couldn't believe they had made the wrong decision about leaving home for the london roads paved with gold!!

had to get a taxi to get into town to do my shopping - only a wait of 10 mins and a nice chat to my iraqi driver who informed me in very good ozzie english that he originally came from Babylon - what a history to tell. then I had to wait 25 bloody mins in the humid heat of the lunch hr until the same driver beaming all over picked me up again. $20 each way and I lashed out $200 in woolworths -was it worth it I wonder as I waited chewing on my smiths crisps
