PostSubject: M.O.T certificate   M.O.T certificate EmptyWed Aug 12, 2020 9:15 am

It's that time of year and I'll be taking the car to get an M.O.T certificate. It should pass OK since it hasn't had a lot of use this year but you never know for certain.

I've asked them to look at why the drivers side window (electric) won't wind down too. This is where they tell me there's a child lock.  yes

If there is, I can't find it and I've done my research on the Internet.

It passed the MOT but a Window regulator is needed. £400 including labour. I think I'll live with the window not winding down. Perhaps enquire if anywhere does it cheaper. It's the kind of thing I'd have sorted out myself years ago. I still might.

I had to have one fitted to the Jag a couple of years ago but it was a lot less than that around about £100 it I can think back that far !
You can live without it but it will be difficult try a local small garage.

That was a price from our local small garage. They are not cheap but usually reliably fair on pricing. I will try another place though.

I have never quite understood why here in oz we just do not have and have never had MOT testing for anyone for any car? - and everything seems to function well ; we all drive around - get them fixed from time to time and obviously the govt and police have not seen the need for it. maybe related to popn sizes?

I never did get the window fixed. It's not an M.O.T failure, so not that important. Makes life a bit difficult when it comes to car park barriers but that's pretty infrequent anyway.

I actually used the car this morning for the first time in weeks. Took it for a run to our son's place to deliver some tomato plants. It still goes OK.

M.O.T time for us is in August but I bet the car hasn't been driven much more than 100 miles since the last M.O.T ..maybe not even that. The bike, home grocery deliveries and walking means very little use of the car. Could almost make do without one.

I don't know why one country would require M.O.T test certificates and not another. They are necessary here if watching the Traffic Police programmes is anything to go by. Bald tyres seems to be the most common offence, followed by dark windows you can hardly see through and stylized unreadable number plates.
