they happen to be one of my favorite delicacies - unobtainable on the shelves in my neck of the woods until now. I browbeat the WW manager who finally persuaded WW 200 kms away to send a few crates - now how difficult was that and he even managed to pop in some chilli muscles in a jar! god they can make ya eyes water but they do taste squishy! i am quite capable of making my own - however I would have to import the rare fresh herring again from outside - city life can be so convenient always!!

Funny thing! About literally 30 seconds ago I was discussing roll mops with my wife and daughter who is visiting. The other thing was kippers! They are the only thing I miss that we used to get when dad was stationed at Harwich. He had some Dutch friends who used to give him the Dutch version of rollmops.

well if you can get raw herring you can make your own with some vinegar and a few spices - soak for a few days in white vinegar! kippers are a bit trickier

We are not keen at all, if they are what we tried once. Very vinegary.

Never tried them. Vinegary I would not like. The most awful thing I ever ate was tripe. Now that is orrible.

Raw soaked in vinegar. Yes. Made me pucker my lips and killed the tastebuds.

I do think you are kidding Irene. I love the stuff along with anything that has a vinegar taste like Piccalilli etc, etc, |
