My Sister Milly by Gemma Dowler will be released on Thursday (29th June), priced £20, as "a truly powerful story and one of triumph over adversity". The deal for world rights in the book was done with Victoria Hobbs at A M Heath. Readers will learn "who Milly really was" and about how her family were diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in 2013 before finding a way to live with the loss of their daughter and sister. According to a statement released by the publisher, the suffering that the Dowler family repeatedly endured after they lost Milly was compounded by the police, the press and the trial "meaning that Milly was lost to them many times over". In the book, Milly is painted as "sassy, funny, outgoing, talented, eccentric, cheeky and loving – a fashion guru, a talented musician and a much-loved daughter and sister". The memoir goes back to 1988 to tell the whole story right up to present day, including Milly and Gemma's childhood, her abduction, finding Milly’s body and her funeral, the arrest of Levi Bellfield, the murder trial, the guilty verdict and the phone hacking. it will also cover Bellfield’s admissions of Milly’s final hours, the Dowler family’s recovery and ability to celebrate Milly's life. Gemma was 16 years-old at the time her sister was abducted and is now 31. A donation from the proceeds of the book is being made to the charity Winston’s Wish, which supports children, young people and their families after the death of a parent or sibling. The book will be launched with Gemma giving an interview to "The One Show", live on BBC1 on Wednesday (28th June). rightsMichael JosephMilly DowlerGemma Dowler Share [/url] |
