can I get something that makes phone calls, text messages, takes piccies, and accesses the internet, and could maybe connect to a printer, and....and a big and...is pay as you go

There are lots of phones that will do this and are pay as you go. If I were you I would visit Chorley Tesco and have a chat with them.
