Wow lovely pictures Malcolm, recognise the flat headed hydrangea, used to love those preferred them to the more rounded ones.

English gardens are at their best during the summer season.  I regularly tune into Monty Don and his dogs on Gardeners World.

He makes it look so easy. It was always when to plant with me and prefered bulbs or pot gardening and not the herbal kind  :;smile:

Lovely pics Malcolm.   You have a beautiful garden. So did we until this year.

I dare not take pictures of our garden at present - the lawn has been invaded by coarse meadow grass which I have every reason to believe was already in the turf laid 3 years ago. After trying to remove each patch individually I ran out of patience and decided to start over again.

I have sprayed the whole lawn with RoundUp - taking care not to let the spray near any of management's border plants. It will take about 3 weeks to kill it completely. Then for the hard work - scarify all the dead stuff off and rotovate the top 6" to a fine tilth.

Then get it level and add 2" of screened topsoil mixed with fertilizer.

Then level and tread that flat.

Finally lay Rolawn Medallion turf and shape the sides.

I feel tired just thinking about it - but at the end I can go for a long lie down.

My wife is not best pleased - but has been placated by a promise of bigger borders for her beloved plants and less grass for me to mow. I could let our community gardeners mow our lawn but prefer to do it myself.
