| My wife found a USB memory stick rattling around in the washing machine - no doubt left in a shirt pocket by me.
The machine had been on a 50 degree one hour cycle so I didn't fancy its chance of survival.
Out of curiosity, I tried it in my computer and it was perfectly OK. I admit to being surprised.

| Most of the newer sticks look to be well sealed. They no doubt get a lot of rough treatment in some cases. I think it would be important to just make sure the connection pins are dry before plugging in after a wash cycle. :)
I used to repair and overhaul televisions, video recorders and other domestic electronic items. The printed circuit boards in these could get pretty grimy. It was pride of work that made me return an item to the customer looking like new inside and out.
I'd take the PCBs out and wash them in hot soapy water, rinse them off and then dry them thoroughly with a hair drier ..or leave then in the sunshine on a nice day. The panels always worked afterwards. The panels being completely dry before plugging them in was the most important bit. |

| Back in about 1985 I was working up a ladder in the winery and the brick sized mobile phone fell out of my overalls pocket and bounced on the concrete and into an open drain full of water , grape residues and cleaner stuff. I shook it , dipped it in ethanol a few times then left it in the airing cupboard overnight. The next day it worked perfectly- much to my surprise! ----------------------------------------- Civilisation is a veneer, easily soluble in alcohol!

| Was the ethanol a single malt whisky or some cheapo vodka? ----------------------------------------- This post may contain controversial personal opinion, humour, ironic comment or sarcasm. | Two bottles of fine Australian wine per night is just warming up ......
Often used to wash down a bunch of pills most of which say "avoid alcohol".
My liver is fine thanks. Probably pickled. |

| Each to our own. I left my younger days far behind and drink in moderation.
Does not mean you cannot have a great time without the old grape seed :;smile:
