| The problems in the World are never ending. News of politics, disasters and all kinds of other worries hit us all the time. We get 24 hour media coverage of just about every incident that occurs and I find it easy to be drawn into listening to (or watching) the News for a lot of the day. I'm pretty sure the constant flow of bad news can affect moods and sleep. It's possible to think along the lines of, "How can I be happy when others are being tragically and horribly killed?" or "What's happening to our once green and pleasant land?" OK, there are still parts of life that are good and can be enjoyed ..but only if all the bad bits can be pushed aside in one's mind. I find this increasingly difficult to do because the News (none of it good at the moment) is being constantly broadcast. To be informed of breaking News can be thought good but taking in a constant flow of it can become quite addictive and subsequently, even depressing. For this reason, I'm going to limit the amount of time spent being informed. Perhaps I'll even sleep better if I discipline myself to only watch/listen to an hour of News day ..then try to shrug it off because I can do absolutely nothing about any of it. |

| The modern day communications are a lot to be desired. What horrified me were people filming on their phones actually when people were near to dying. Quite horrible. Way to much media coverage on all events. I ask this happens worldwide in most countries everyday. Unfortunately most are only interested when it happens on their doorstep. There was a lot of concern in Spain about all tragedies in the UK Spaniards genuinely crying with concern and emotion. Nobody cares Mart, some do like you and I, because we are compassionate and care for others welfare. Some enjoy tradgy and suffering but do nothing to help or use it as an excuse to cause demonstrations to put a point across on a forum to appear intelligent or what they would do etc etc.Empty vessels make the most noise so they say. I agree Mart and switch off most news items now as it is overbearing at times. Sleep well Mart and try to put it in another box if that makes sense. You are a good man and deserve to sleep well. So do that my friend. Let the gloaters take the burden. They are just weird in my view. |

| 24 hour news programmes are really awful, they play replay after replay and trot out their own "experts" that nobody has ever heard of for every major news item and then flog it to death. Must admit I stick to headlines only most of the time, only delving further if I want to know more. |

| I've noticed the same .... a lot of news must get buried or just never followed though as they fix on one major incident or topic as 'newsworthy' and hammer away at it all day, often with very little to add to it. |

| BBC local news site is dire, the same items are on there for days and days. |

| Why the need to watch close up shots of people suffering.
While there are mobile phones people get paid to upload their shots.
Very scary indeed |

| For the reasons you have all given - I gave up TV two or three years ago.
I only watch a little sport and some comedy programmes - but never the so-called news.
My wife watches for me and keeps me up to date on the items of interest. |

| I never watch much either, preferring a good book or a decent film.
Soaps I gave up years ago. Mind numbing garbage.
We are watching rugby at the moment Argentina V England
I like drama and the old films with Bette Davis and a good old cowboy film
Love all the old comedy programmes as well. |

| I think catching the news has almost become an addiction like coffee each day - yes we can have too much of it but also trying to exist for one week with no news at all seems unbearable. Surely the answer is discipline - we can switch off the TV, or not check our Ipad of cell phone and when someone stops us and says "have you heard about........" just say "i must dash now late for..........."
I live in a small isolated part of WA and if I use none of the above mentioned would be newsless for as long as I choose? |

| I agree with that Davo. We rarely have changing news here but tend to tune in to British news being UK citizen which is so depressing at times.
Just repeats all the time. We switch off too at times .
It's a different world here a bit like being in a bubble. More chilled. |

| Talking about repeats. Avatar was on the telly last night, first time for a long time. I think it hasn't been shown for about a week and a half. Same channel too. They want us to buy a Licence for this rubbish. |
