I feel a lot older

I feel a lot older this morning.  For some time now I have been getting the visual symptoms of migraine but without a headache or sickness occurring. The specialist put me on a tablet which stopped the symptoms completely, and had a scan of my head and neck, ultrasound of my heart, and I wore a heart monitor for five days.  I saw him yesterday and he said that all the scans were completely normal,but that what I had thought were some mini strokes over one weekend, was in fact a more major one, and I had had a lucky escape, which of course pleased me immensely, as it appeared that all was well now.  However that's when he dropped the bombshell.  He said that unfortunately as the new medication had stopped the symptoms immediately and completely, this pointed to the fact that I had been getting a series of miniature seizures, and must stop driving for the next twelve months.  If any more episodes occur in that time, I must telephone him immediately so that he can increase the dose. If I get more than one in a day I must dial 999 and let the paramedics examine me.  He will review the situation after twelve months. I must admit to feeling ten years older this morning, I don't expect to start driving again after all that time.

Getting older is a bugger isn't it ?
Luckily there is medication available to help you !
Just take it nice and easy, try not to worry .... you will start feeling better in no time.

I must admit that at the moment I feel nervous.  Yesterday everything was fine but now my mind is filled with conflicting thoughts and I had a poor nights sleep.  Things will settle down by tomorrow I'm sure.

Sorry to hear that, 'andsome. Can understand the way you must be feeling but hopefully, you will feel a little more settled soon.

Sorry to read that andsome. Regarding the worry and the lack of sleep, I hope you will soon be able come to terms with what's happened, shove it to the back of your mind and then carry on regardless (but not strenuously). I sometimes feel that's a good way of dealing with such things.

I reckon I will be OK by tomorrow, it was a shock at the time. Thanks for your wishes folks

Oh dear andsome - I am so sorry to hear of your troubles.

I recall when I was first diagnosed with angina and diabetes I went well over the top with fretting about it. I gave up golf worrying that my inevitable imminent heart attack would be on the furthest point on the course and I gave up everything that contained sugar.

But it was a total over-reaction and I have now settled into a groove of knowing what and when to eat and how much exercise I can manage. So all my fretting was for nothing.

I am sure you are following a similar path - and having concern about your condition is quite understandable. Do please try to relax and take it easy.

Seriously, please try to relax.
Anxiety will not help, although I realise it's easier said than done.
Just take the advice from your Specialist...

You be fine Andsome. Try and get the thoughts out of your head.

Sometimes it helps to turn off your tablet and watch a film, hot bath and bed.

Thanks folks,I have probably over reacted. There are thousands worse off than me. I will be ok tomorrow.Worse things happen at sea as they say. Just a bit of a shock at the time,makes you realise that time catches up eventually

Andsome, not when it happens to you its not lovely.

Have you got a lunch club in your area..? or similar. Try to be with people or start a friends circle if you have limited mobility. 

It is beter to be with people if you can.

We are starting to find out what is happening locally,never having the need to before. It's a good job that 'Er indoors can drive

My mum and dad used to belong to a dance club twice a week and loved it. They would go off on holiday or the markets in Switzerland at Christmas.

The problem is you have to do it if that makes sense, it is so easy just to get up and put the telly on and you are there for  the rest of  day

Do you have a U3A group around where you are?  I found they were an interesting source of people with similar interests- be it writing, walking, poetry, politics etc you name it they can form a group.
