PostSubject: Is it worth the cost??   Is it worth the cost?? EmptySun Mar 05, 2017 11:13 pm

the young royals Will and his missus are moving house to the tune of millions and 30 rooms and nine bathrooms. Is it worth the cost to the economy in hard times - what contribution are they making to the country??

I have no love of royalty and aristocracy whatsoever. I like Sue Townsends idea, in her book 'The queens and I'

Attack the idea of the monarchy by all means but the individuals were born into their positions. They are not parasites.

A parasitic system but one cannot blame those involved for what they inherited. I certainly would not like the job!

The parasites in society are some of the politicians, bankers, lawyers, union bosses, church leaders, benefit cheats, ....need I go on?

Whilst I would consider them usurpers of the true throne as outlined in Tony Robinsons excellent doco I wouldn't consider them as parasites in this respect I would agree more with Alan here. and we must remember that as one of the few monarchies left in the world they do have a huge tourist attraction and are great supporters of many charities. Much of their properties are owned by the state not them personally and her actual 'salary' from the govt each year is paltry compared to some of those sleazbags name by alan above!

Oh yes, I couldn't agree more about the overpaid you and Alan mentioned
I agree the tourist aspect is still important, but monarchy by heredity is, indeed , an anachronism. No reflection on the actual persons who are doing the job, which is by no means stressfree.

Why don't we all adopt the North Korea model - a free republic and a hereditary figurehead all in one. drum

Roll on the republic,at least we could vote for a president. I hate to see all the bowing and curtsying. They are only people after all, definitely not gods. They are no better than us.
