| anyone on here ever lived there or been there - it is fascinating watching the african politics play out over there - "will you stand down - you lost" " NO bugger off" and now they've got the rest of africa almost involved and the UN! - it's like a Shakespearian melodrama! |

| Never been to Gambia, but I did live in Lagos - Nigeria - at the end of the 70's.
I think I have had sufficient experience of the African Continent... ----------------------------------------- ..

| well one of the last books I read suggested that of course everything is very tribal and once a tribe gains power their leader can live in a grand palace - indeed must and have the best cars and clothes etc - his own people expect him to even if they live in poverty |

| That doesn't surprise me. The population seemed to be either very rich or extremely poor in Nigeria. ----------------------------------------- ..

| This is why I am completely against foreign aid being paid to governments. It should instead be given to aid agencies from this country, who could help those in need, and where infrastructure is needed they could employ local labour to carry it out, giving the locals paid employment. ----------------------------------------- Gustav Mahler is the finest composer who ever lived. |
