PostSubject: For Cyclone Enthusiasts?   For Cyclone Enthusiasts? EmptyThu Dec 22, 2016 11:02 pm

TC Yvette is bearing down on us on the west coast of WA from the Indian Ocean and should hit land by Xmas day - Monsoonal rain began at 1pm yesterday as the lad and I had a beer at a street cafe and has continued now for 12 hrs unabated. We are fortunately in a newish cyclone proof house. at 3pm yesterday the kids danced in the rain on the lawn I doubt if they would be game for it now!

Yesterday was 35°C but last night it bucketed down all night. Today were back to 30+ with a few high clouds.

What is forecast for Christmas day in South Island of new Zealand?  My granddaughter is touring both islands for seven months.

Nothing too dreadful  Andsome. Bit of occasional showers here and there but mostly mid 20 temperature. That's a long tour. She on a working holiday?

She has obtained her degree, and is holidaying with a friend.  They are earning a bit of money now and then with a few days helping out on farms. Thanks for the info.  She has promised to Skype us at my daughters house in Shrewsbury on Christmas day.

I get quite a few people from overseas coming in when I'm on at the museum. Always interesting talking to them. A lot of them are young people on a working holiday. It's a good way to see the country and meet the inhabitants. When I have been travelling I was never interested in 5 star hotels or cruise liners. I want to meet the locals and their culture. Hope you're grandaughter enjoys her time and if she is ever in Hawkes Bay let me know.(It's wine country! Now there's an incentive! yes )

never seem to see any NZ wine in OZ - but we do go into wine gluts a lot here and I suppose you are seen as a competitor!

It's a huge export Davo, but most of it goes to the UK, USA or a burgeoning market in China.
