PostSubject: Garmin satnav   Garmin satnav EmptySun Jul 12, 2015 11:25 am

I have a Garmin nuvi 265WT. Of late I have been getting an unusual message every time I switch it on, and occasionally while driving. It says 'connection to phone has failed' I have NEVER set it up to connect to a phone. I have been through all the settings and cannot see any way of stopping this. Any ideas please?  Garmin office is closed today

Been there, and I am informed that I am not permitted to start new threads.  What kind of stupid forum is that?

I have managed to attach a post with apologies for doing so to another thread.  I suppose the message, apart from being an annoyance, is not all that important.  I wouldn't be without a satnav again.  It has proved to be invaluable over the years.

After going round and round in circles I eventually forum the blue tooth settings and disabled it.  I must have done something wrong recently and enabled the setting.

I wouldn't be without my satnav.  It has proved to be invaluable.  No more messing about peering at maps.

I have a built-in sat nav in my car which is quite good. However it lacks speed camera warnings so I use my Garmin Nuvi 2699-LMT as well when I am visiting far flung places I am not familiar with.

I can never understand why sat nav mapping - of every brand - is so much out of date. I bought new maps for my car satnav recently. A housing estate built in Wellesbourne Warwickshire 2 years ago is not shown. The road island at the entrance to the estate is shown - but no roads leading off it. Tom Tom show a few of the roads and Google maps even more.

The other beef from car owners is the cost of a map update - It varies from £25 to £225 depending on the brand of car. My previous KIA used to cost £139 my present KIA costs £25. My Garmin map updates are free.

I have a new KIA Hybrid car on order which can be connected via Android auto to Google maps, speed cameras and traffic via WiFi. This will render my Garmin redundant.

Adding to this thread rather than start a new one.
I have just invested in a new Tom Tom Go 5200 as they informed me that my old Start does not have sufficient memory for the latest maps. It has been well travelled before it got to me; from Eindhoven via Barking, Tamworth and Luton eventually to Hatfield.
Does seem a lot easier to use than my old one but I have not used it in anger yet.

Try asking Garmin what their definition of "Lifetime" is. You may be surprised.

This TomTom has maps for life as well, in my case that is probably not going to be very long.
I have tried Garmin but found the instructions a bit confusing to be honest. Tom Tom in operation seems better to me but is a real pain to initially set up and get it running, took me about 3 hours to download updates etc. for this one.

I had no trouble with my last one, it updated regularly.  The display just got darker and darker, and it started to cut off now and then, so I bought my current one.
