I don't quite know where you are coming from. He is an expert in his field and obviously know more about the subject than any of us. I am quite content to be guided by him. The MRI obviously showed an irregularity, while the biopsy was clear of cancer. It makes sense to observe for a time to see if the irregularity does not change and is therefore benign. My wife has seven benign brain tumours which have not changed in many years. She could have adopted your bull at a gate attitude and had her head cut open to remove these, with all the inherent risks for the operation, as well as the weeks of rehabilitation to follow. You obviously have best intentions, but I am sure that he knows his job. There is a saying in the UK, 'teaching your grandmother to suck eggs.' ----------------------------------------- Gustav Mahler is the finest composer who ever lived. |

ps: you don't need another consultation face to face just phone him! It is in fact three months to my next appointment and I am happy to let things rest as the biopsy showed no cancer. The MRI can only show if there are any irregularities,it does not diagnose. So I see no point in a change of medication at this stage. If as hoped whatever the MRI showed is something benign, and I am checked regularly I am happy to leave well alone. ----------------------------------------- Gustav Mahler is the finest composer who ever lived. |

| You might find that, despite medication, they have to go poking about up the drain pipe to remove some meat.
They had two goes with me before I was signed off as "free of prostate and erections"
Finasteride is still on my list of "old man's prescribed beneficials". |

| I cannot pee. Something to do with the bladder neck being tight. It's not prostate trouble. Had all examinations including a camera into that area. The problem dates back 30 odd years when one of my kidneys was removed. They remarked that my bladder also wasn't emptying very well. The difficulty peeing got worse, probably over the last 6 or 7 years until there came a time I couldn't get rid of any. Anyone who has had this problem will know how painful that can be.
The problem is overcome by 'use-once-and-dispose-of-it' catheters. I can't go anywhere without a secret supply of them hidden somewhere on me or near me. It's one of the reasons we can't go on holidays.
I mean, how many times do we need to visit the loo a day? I have to estimate how long I'm going to be out and how many pees I might need that day, let alone worrying about a number of days. I'd have to carry a small suitcase full of catheters for a holiday. The result of being caught out without them could be serious and perhaps not exaggerating to say 'critical'. Add to this Mrs Mart being in a wheelchair (in pain a lot of the time) and trips away from home for any length of time are a bygone option.
Apparently, an 'atonic' bladder (not atomic :)) is caused by a message from the brain not getting through that tells the bladder neck to relax and the bladder to contract. Both parts are necessary in order for a bladder to empty out naturally. Not an uncommon problem if you research it.
I have a tumour on my remaining kidney but it hasn't grown any in two and a half years and both the consultant, the oncology nurse and I are happy to just scan it once in a while.
Isn't it funny that all this is wrong yet I still have loads of energy for walking and cycling for miles. I look healthy too. So long as I have my catheters with me and can hide using them (cubicle job), nobody would suspect I had anything wrong. Not unless I told them ..or unless they have known me for years. |
