Tinui is a tiny village about 45km from the nearest town . We took a curiosity drive to see for our selves and found some interesting things. Population about 50 but with it's own school, museum and cafe and bar and about 20 houses. We had a lovely lunch at the Tinui Cafe & Bar.

Like all rural areas of NZ it had suffered great losses in the Gallipoli campaign and the rest of the WW1.

It was the first to remember an ANZAC day after Gallipoli. The local vicar organised a march up to a prominent hill overlooking the village, to erect a cross of remembrance for those killed in that futile battle.
It is quite a historical little place, and a lovely place with really friendly people.

Good photos Ciderman - Thanks for showing them. It's always interesting to see other parts of the World. Not just places on the major tourist routes but others too. :)

Very interesting, agree with Mart, always enjoy seeing other parts of the world. New Zealand is of particular interest to me as my uncle lived in Auckland for about 13 years.

I completed my secondary education at Takapuna Grammar on Auckland's north shore, after I arrived in NZ late in 1952. My dad was on loan to the RNZN for 3 years and at the end of that it coincided with the end of his commission period, so he either had to sign on again or opt out. He loved NZ so we stayed.  :-)
