| It's amazing things do look different with colour added. When my niece was small she said to me Aunty Goldie what was life like in the black and white days. I still remind her to this day 42 with three children of her own. |

| Thanks :) Some of the colours had to be imagined. It's almost for sure that the smocks were white (might have been cream) and the woodwork was dark. The skin and hair colours are about right. The wallpaper and cushions were only what they might have been though.
The baby laying down is Mrs Mart's Dad. The girl sitting up is her Aunt. Both have died now. |

| This is another that took hours to do because it was in such a bad state. It was taken during WW1: I tried colouring it after is was repaired but it didn't look all that good. It was all the khaki against a brown hut that didn't make it suitable for colouring. I had a bit of a go but didn't persist too much: Then, it just had to be decided whether to make it black and white of keep is sepia(ish). Sepia won. The fellow sitting second from the left at the front is Mrs Mart's Granddad and the father of the little baby (my wife's Dad) shown in the previous post. |

| It's the one in the middle. Keeping it that shade maintains the photo's historic look. |

| I do quite a lot of photos for the museum where I work part time. Mostly photos that have been creased or torn. We don't want to change anything for historical reasons, but getting rid of distractions that are the result of their age. On the same topic, about two years ago I had someone come into the museum who had recently moved into the district and bought an old house. The first thing you usually do here , when you buy an old home is insulate the ceiling and underfloor. This guy said that he had found a wooden box in the attic, full of little window panes about 4 inches by 5. No use for anything he thought and chucked them in the landfill rubbish! I can't be sure but I wouldn't mind betting they were 4 x 5 glass negatives, and apparently packed closely together, so if they had been gelatin negatives some might have survived. I nearly cried!! ----------------------------------------- Civilisation is a veneer, easily soluble in alcohol!
